THE Jubilee Centre in Bury provides facilities for older people in order to keep them fit in mind and body for as long as possible.
I am one of several hundred people using this centre every week, and like many others I travel by public transport. Additionally, there are many local residents using the centre.
Contrary to what has been claimed on this page, the only time there is traffic chaos is when parents in cars are collecting children from school. The centre is not open when they are going to school.
Despite the fact that this country has an ageing population, there are very few facilities available which cater specifically for this age group, as most people between 50-55 are still working. This centre is much envied by visitors from other regions, and people in the south of the borough would love a similar centre.
Expanding the centre will not - as has been suggested - prevent local residents from using the facilities at Clarence Park, and perhaps those people with "fond memories" will travel to enjoy the facilities once again. And, yes, certainly greenbelt needs to be protected, but it's not written in stone.
