BLACKPOOL BOYS U-15 1, BURY BOYS U-15 0: Bury Boys put in a tremendous Alder/Owen Trophy Round Three performance against a strong Blackpool side, who had lost only once all season.
The late withdrawal of leading striker, Adam Edwards (Prestwich), with an achilles injury, left the team short of firepower, but it played some of its best football of the season and was unlucky to lose.
The decisive goal came as early as the ninth minute when, with no apparent danger, Keiran Davies (Parrenthorn) was robbed by the Blackpool striker, who slotted the ball past the hapless Bury keeper. This was Keiran's only error in another fine display, but a costly one. Rather than defeating the side it made them work even harder, with skipper Ross Buckley (St Monica's) directing operations from mid-field.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Bury having the edge in mid-field and the back four coping admirably with the dangerous Blackpool forwards. Both central defender, Andy Sagar (Elton), and left back, Adam Riley (Woodhey), had outstanding games.
Blackpool missed an easy chance and Bury, despite mid-field dominance, had few attempts on goal until five minutes from time, when substitute James Moore (St Gabriel's), powered a great shot just over the bar. An exciting and sporting encounter ended with Bury still trying to score the much needed equaliser.
