A LIFE on the ocean wave awaits teenager Adam Butterworth.
The 18-year-old from Fernview Drive, Holcombe Brook, will board HMS Kent later this year for a tour of the United States and the Caribbean after successfully completing his training as a chef in the Royal Navy this month.
The former Woodhey High School pupil, started following in the footsteps of his dad, Steve - a former Royal Navy caterer - at the age of 12 when joined the Rochdale Cadets. This month, Adam gained top place on his course at HMS Raleigh, a training centre in Cornwall for new recruits.
Able Seaman Butterworth performed his first official duties last week, which included preparing a dinner on board HMS Victory, which was attended by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Adam, who is now based in Portsmouth, will set sail for the United States in July.
