ON Thursday, March 10, Bury Photographic Society saw the start of the 2005 Bi-Monthly Monochrome and Colour competition. This runs until November with five competitions taking place and being judged by an independent judge. These are open to both club section (the less experienced) and the advanced sections.

The judge for this month's event was Mr Ian Little LRPS CPAGB from the Southport Club, Ian is known to a number of our members and I must say, he did a very good job of judging some excellent work both in the monochrome and colour sections. The high scores in the mono, with a score of nine points were, Mike Margiotta, with an image entitled Vintage Bike Racer, and ten points to Bill Hulme with a portrait entitled Victoria. The colour section was even more closely fought with a number of nine scores, however, nine and a halves were awarded to E. B. Swarbrick (2) and Neil Gilmore (1). The winner on the night with two tens was Neil Gilmore, with two excellent natural history images, well done Neil. All who entered should be congratulated for the quality of work which was entered. As the judge said afterwards, "When you come to Bury, you know you will see high class work".

On March 24, we have a viewing of the Southport Open Competition, (this is on slide) this is a national event, and some of our members have had work accepted for this. On March 31, we are holding one of our workshop nights and this time the subject is photographing glass, that could be interesting.

Anyone who is interested should contact us on 0161 724 0615 or 0161 761 1874, or pay us a visit at Fishpool Liberal function room, Nelson Street, at about 7.30pm.
