I HAVE been researching my family history and I would be most interested to hear from anyone who served (or who had relatives who served) on the No 924 Balloon Squadron defences at Eastleigh in Hampshire during 1940?
One man mentioned in August, 1940 correspondence was called Charley Fitton and the servicemen were drawn from all over Lancashire.
The Balloon Squadron was established at Eastleigh in June, 1940 after No 924 Squadron had been evacuated from France. I believe that they were the only Balloon Squadron to publish their own magazine called "Barrage Francais," whilst in France.
I shall be most interested to hear from anyone who served or with information about the RAF Balloon Squadron in Hampshire. All related replies will be acknowledged.
