ON your report (LET, March 16) regarding the proposed recruitment of Muslim girls to the Lancashire Constabulary, I was perturbed to learn that as a special privilege, any individual accepted as a constable will be rewarded by being allowed to wear their hijab headwear.
If this occurs, I am aware that in our present climate these female recruits wearing the Muslim headgear will not be respected by certain members of the community as the local drunks have no respect for officers.
As Islamic scholars are being encouraged to join the police service, is this the procedure in non-Islamic schools?
