VOLUNTEERS are needed to help give two overgrown allotments in Colne a new lease of life.
The area at the bottom of Basil Street in Waterside has become increasingly overgrown and covered in litter but now the site is being cleared to make way for a community allotment which will grow fresh food for people living in the area.
The Wildlife Trust and Pendle Council are behind the project and have contracted the Environmental Action Group to do the clearance work.
Emma Cosgrif from the Wildlife Trust said: "I am really excited about this new project as its on such a prominent site and offers great opportunities for the whole community to get involved.
"We aim to show how growing fresh food on an allotment can be of benefit to people and to the environment. The site will be run on organic principles and will incorporate a number of measures aimed at increasing wildlife."
