THERE was a surprise guest at the February meeting of Radcliffe Townswomen's Guild when Mr Smith came to talk about his connection to the Bolton Royal Theatre.

The uncle of Mr Smith was the manager there for more than 50 years and so, as a boy, he had the opportunity to meet and watch many of the famous acts visiting Bolton. Mr Smith brought along his aunties scrapbook of photographs to show, many of which had been signed.

The trip around the Library Theatre in Manchester was interesting, and members were allowed backstage to the dressing and rehearsal rooms. After lunch, members watched the play The Real Thing by Tom Stoppard.

The last meeting was be the AGM on Wednesday at Bridge Methodist Church, when the officers were welcomed by the Federation representative, Miss Broadbent. After the business meeting there was a decorated egg competition, followed by a light-hearted quiz.

There is a concert by Brassed Off on Wednesday, April 13, on behalf of the guilds chosen charity this year, the RNLI. The concert, at Bridge Methodist Church (behind the library), will commence at 7.30pm, tickets can be bought at the door, £2.50. This is the major fund-raising event for the charity and members are encouraged to bring their spouse and friends.

This an active and friendly guild and you are welcome to join us.
