UNSELFISH Edna Jones thought of others not herself on her 90th birthday.
Instead of receiving gifts to mark the big day cancer survivor Edna, of Cherry Tree Road, Lowton, asked for donations for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
As a result she has presented the magnificent sum of £540 to fund raisers at the hospice.
Edna's condition was diagnosed at the age of 71 and she beat it following an operation at Leigh Infirmary and treatment at Christies.
A long-term supporter of the Laburnum Day Centre, Lowton, Edna was a volunteer there for 28 years until she had a fall at the age of 88 when she became a client. She now attends the centre three times a week.
She said: "The Day Centre has been a big part of my life. I still love going there.
Lowton born and bred she says: "I remember during the war, standing in the street with my mother shouting abuse at the planes going overhead."
Edna has two daughters, a son, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and seven-years-old, Georgia, her great great granddaughter.
Hospice communications and PR officer, Edwin Matthews, said: "It is a clear example that not everyone who contracts a life-threatening disease has a shortened life-span.We'd like to thank Edna for her kind thoughts."
