HOME Secretary Charles Clarke paid a flying visit to Unsworth on Wednesday to speak to a group of residents tackling anti-social behaviour.
Mr Clarke visited the Hunters Hill estate, off Hollins Lane, and was greeted by Belinda Whittleworth, Barbara Carter and Angela Youds who are forming the estates first Tenants and Residents' Association (TRA).
On his arrival Mr Clarke, joined by Bury North MP David Chaytor, was presented with a set of proposals for the TRA before embarking on a short tour of the estate and shown the land which the group plan to transform into a place for the estates youngsters with a new shelter, park and adventure course.
Miss Whittleworth said: "We have been thinking about forming a TRA for a long time and there is nothing done for the children on the estate."
Following his tour Mr Clarke asked the group for their views on the estate's relationship with the police and Bury Council and if there was any problems with drugs.
Mr Clarke and Mr Chaytor then moved on to Unsworth Methodist Church Hall, in Hollins Lane, where he met more than 20 residents and teenagers planning to join the TRA when it forms later this year.
