I ATTENDED the recent A.D.A.B. football tournament at Openshaw Park, Bury in which my son took part, and I was absolutely disgusted at the behaviour of many of the Asian youths, both on and off the pitch.
They were constantly shouting abuse at the white players and, on occasion, at the spectators. At one point items were thrown onto the pitch.
The referee was taunted and verbally abused in every match, although he did a great job. At no point was the referee racially abused, although if he had not been Asian I fear he would have been!
The tournament was aimed at bringing different cultures closer together; instead it showed myself and many others attending what a racist and threatening attitude many Asian youths possess.
I doubt that this letter will make the pages of the Bury Times, though I suspect that if such racism was aimed at the Asian community the story would make headline news and those responsible would be subject to a police inquiry.
EYES WIDE OPEN,
Bury.
