I WAS pleased to see in your paper letters from Barbara Ralph (March 9) and Donald Kimberley (March 21) writing about the lack of funding for non-vocational classes run by Blackburn College and I reiterate their comments.

I am a member of the Students' Committee that fought a long, hard battle to make our voice heard in relation to the loss of our Four Lanes End Educational Centre.

Following that battle we were fortunate to be able to have the use of College House which we have fully appreciated as an educational centre.

However, we now look to be at the stage of not only losing College House but our funding as well unless more funds can be dragged out of the government. It seems unfair that we should suffer so much loss when the younger members of society are over-indulged with a refurbished hairdressing department costing £3.5million.

Our needs financially are small in comparison but the benefits to the community at large are enormous.

I call on all students to make your voices heard and to contact your MPs and your local councillors telling them how badly we are being treated.

There is much we may lose yet there is so much to gain and now, when elections are approaching, is the time for informed protest.
