I WOULD like to remind all motorists out there how unpredictable horses can be on the road, and ask everyone to take care round them.
The person who is riding the horse doesn't know its next move, so the motorist has no chance.
We understand that most motorists are very understanding and pass with due caution and care, and I would hope that most riders would thank them for this.
However, the minority who pass too fast, and some even beep their horns think it's all very funny.
They wouldn't be laughing if the horse fell on their car. Although it may have all the mod cons, I doubt whether it would not be damaged. They do not think that they too could be killed, as well as the horse and rider. Imagine having to live with that on your conscience for one silly little act.
I would also urge all horse riders to ensure that they are wearing fluorescent clothing throughout the summer months whilst they are riding.
Far too many people are injured in the summer months because they think they don't need to wear fluorescent clothing because it's sunny. This is not true, motorists struggle to see horses just as much in the summer because they can't see the horses for the sunlight.
We can all work together to ensure that the roads are a safer place for all.
Remember to always expect the unexpected, and pass wide and slow.
