TWO East Lancashire mums are helping women get to grips with grapes with an increasingly successful wine tasting business.

Women on Wine (WOW) was set up two years ago by Barrowford business partners Janine Nelson, top right, and Michelle Parker to break into the male dominated world of wine tasting.

And the venture now has its own website www.womenonwine.co.uk and is looking to recruit more people to lead its wine tasting parties.

The business organises parties predominantly, but not exclusively, for women in the comfort of their own home so they can sample a variety of wine from across the world.

WOW has proved such a hit that it has set up a wine club and can also organise corporate and charity wine-tastings, as well as nights focusing on specific grape varieties.

Janine, 33, and Michelle, 37, both gave up full-time jobs to become mums, but wanted to do evening work.

Janine said: "We realised nobody was focussing on women specifically as wine drinkers and as wine is becoming more and more popular this sort of business seemed a good choice.

"Hopefully we can offer women information in a relaxed and fun environment. We want to try to take the snobby element out of wine tasting."
