THE new boss of Lancaster market has returned to his roots to take over as manager.
Dennis Allday was involved in the rebuilding of the market and also helped plan the gas supply around the building while working for British Gas.
Following redundancy in 1996, he ran his own business organising exhibitions in hospitals for companies who provide products and services to the NHS.
He then went on to work for the National Farmers' Union as a business development manager and now - with more than 30 years experience in the retail industry - says he has great plans to revitalise the city council-run market.
He also wants to improve signage, tighten up on fly posting and improve access around the market hall.
He says: "I am keen to ensure customers not only have a great variety of goods at competitive prices to choose from but also enjoy the appearance of the market as this will impact on their perception.
"This is a great market, with everything from fruit and veg, meat and dairy products, books, cards and even beauty treatments.
"The diversity of choice is, I believe, second to none."
