MOTOR cyclists are banding together to launch a road safety campaign group.
The 50 biking members of Lancaster and Morecambe's Institute of Advanced Motorists group are breaking away to form their own 'club'.
The aim is to offer skills improvement courses and an advanced rider qualification to local people across the district at the start of the 'biking season'.
And secretary Phil Butcher points out that it is not just a cosmetic exercise - for having a qualification can earn discounts of around 10 per cent off insurance premiums for riders.
The new group is to be named the Morecambe Bay Estuaries Group of Advanced Motor Cyclists, or MBEAM for short.
It will be launched at 1pm on Sunday, April 17, at the Truck-haven on the A6 at Carnforth.
Phil says that anyone interested in finding out more about advanced motor cycling can attend the event for a 'no-strings-attached' chat - and arrangements can also be made for a free assessment ride to be held either that day or in the future.
People who sign up as members will be invited to help themselves to a light buffet after the formal launch of the group.
More information is on the website at www.mbeam.org.uk or from Phil on 07919-991296.
