GOALKEEPER Jon Kennedy is relishing the challenge of his loan move to Witton Albion.

The Accrington Stanley stopper has failed to feature in manager John Coleman's plans since recovering from a spiral fracture he sustained in a freak training ground accident in October.

But Kennedy is seeing his spell with the UniBond Premier Division promotion chasers as a chance to put himself back in the frame for next season.

"It's just good to get back into playing for a few games," the 24-year-old former Sunderland keeper said.

"It was all right playing for the reserves but playing for Witton is going to be a bit more competitive.

"The manager wanted to get me out on loan earlier but with the restrictions of only having two players out on loan at a time it hasn't been possible until now.

"But he has said that I'm still part of his plans."

Kennedy played in Witton's Easter Monday game against Bamber Bridge following an injury to goalkeeper Paul Gibson, and he helped them to secure a 2-0 win, aiding their bid for a play-off place.

"It was a pretty good start," said Kennedy, who added that he had no complaints about not being able to win back the number one jersey at Stanley this season.

"This is a crucial time for the club and the side's been balanced with Paul Crichton playing the last 20 league games.

"When the team is on a good run you can't upset that balance."
