AS the general election looms, I ask myself if we can trust politicians any more? (and this goes for all political parties).
I have grown very disillusioned by politics.
I find this day and age we do not have the great statesmen and women that we had years ago, who put the country and people first. Politicians today are interested in one thing only, and that is securing a very lucrative job as an MP.
Does it really matter to them about the country which they are supposed to be serving? I think not. At the end of the day they will retire, some with a title, and be very comfortably off, and some will go on to become MEPs. Being an MEP is more lucrative than being an MP.
I think that until people in this country can begin to trust politicians to serve instead of serving themselves, we will always find a low turnout at elections.
