WHAT is happening in this town? Have we forgotten that the people who attend these adult education classes run by Blackburn College are the very people who helped to develop this town?
They are local people who have lived, worked and contributed to make it what it is now.
Many still do work and contribute through taxes and council tax.
Many are the kind of people who are called upon to do voluntary work in the town, giving their time freely to help others in the borough.
The adult students at College House want the best for the young people and the disadvantaged people in the town, but it is wrong that this has to be at the expense of them foregoing their own lifelong learning opportunities.
Not all learning needs a qualification at the end of it to have made it worthwhile. Self esteem and the sheer joy of creating a thing of beauty, or learning a new personal skill is every bit as important.
When I see some of the courses being offered by universities today, I think it is a bit rich to tell the older generation that there isn't the money available to run life enriching courses such as the ones that are to be lost to this borough.
