MUM of three Dawn Henderson thought nothing of staying overnight in a haunted pub to start her charity fund raising ball rolling.

She and a group of friends organised a sleepover at the 13th century Man and Scythe Inn, Bolton, and collected £500 towards the thousands she is hoping to raise at a big fun day planned at Hindsford FC in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.

Dawn, formerly of Tyldesley, has a 15-years-old daughter, Denis Callow, who was born with the condition and has organised the event on April 17 to coincide with Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week.

She has chosen the venue because her family and friends live in the area and brother, Phil Anders, plays goalkeeper for the club.

Dawn, who now lives in Bolton, has spent months putting the programme together. It includes fun for all the family with fancy dress, football matches and the chance to splat a councillor in the stocks.

She said: "I have raised money for the Trust before but this is the first big fun day. Despite her condition Denise, who has regular treatment at Bolton, Booth Hall, St James, Leeds, and Pendlebury Hospitals is treated just like her brother and sister Darren and Danielle. I felt I had to do something to help the charity and raise awareness of the condition which affects the heart, lungs and pancreas.

"We started the fund raising with a stay at the reputedly haunted old pub from which James the 7th Earl of Derby was taken outside and executed for his part in the Civil War in 1651. We didnt sleep but we enjoyed the experience and certainly felt a presence.

"We hope everyone will turn out to support the fun day which will be open between 10am and 4pm with free admission."
