BURNLEY goalkeeper Danny Coyne has been handed a timely vote of confidence following his costly mistake for Wales in Austria last night.
The Welsh number one was at fault for allowing a late shot from outside the box to trickle through his grasp in the 1-0 defeat in Vienna, which ended all hope of qualifying for next summer's World Cup in Germany.
However, national coach John Toshack has assured Coyne his position is safe for Wales' next qualifying game against England at the Millennium Stadium in
September.
Toshack said: "The England keeper David James did something very similar in Austria earlier in the campaign and it cost him his position in the team.
"But we don't do things like that and I certainly will not be leaving Danny out. We are not as harsh on people as that.
"It is difficult for him because he is not playing regular first-team football (at Burnley), but nobody is blaming him.
"Our strikers should have settled it long before that incident. We made countless chances and their keeper produced some excellent saves.
"Over the two matches he was by far the busier goalkeeper so it is tough to blame Danny for what happened."
Coyne has not started a first team game for Burnley since last October.
