GREEN-FINGERED youngsters have helped a community garden in Radcliffe blossom by planting dozens of shrubs and flowers.
The children joined residents of Dumers Estate for a planting day at the community garden in Seddon Avenue, which has been transformed by Dumers Tenants and Residents Association.
The association decided to take action last June after the land became overgrown and a breeding ground for rubbish.
With the help of Bury Council's grounds maintenance staff, the trees and brambles were cleared before the landscapers moved in and residents added the finishing touches to the low maintenance garden on Easter Saturday.
Councillor Steve Perkins, Bury Council's executive member for regeneration and housing, said: "This is an example of local people leading an effort to improve the quality of life in their area.
"We were only too delighted to back this idea which has turned a piece of redundant land into a lovely communtiy garden.
"It is something I hope everyone will appreciate and treasure."
Glenys Holt, chairman of Dumers TRA, said: "This project has provided an attractive community garden, bringing neighbours together through community participation.
"It has set the standard for similar projects on other parts of Dumers estate."
