TWO teenagers will campaign for young people in Leigh after they were elected onto the National Youth Parliament.
Michaela Neild, 16, and Natasha Abbott, 14, became the borough's youngest MYPs when they were voted into office by their peers at an election held at Hindley Leisure Centre.
Four deputy MYPs were also elected to stand in for the pair when needed.
The pair aim to tackle teenage pregnancy, bullying, crime and disorder, facilities for young people and transport.
The Youth Parliament aims to raise awareness of what constitutes politics and citizenship and how they are universally accessible to every young person.
The UKYP is a national body of democratically elected young people aged from 11 to 18. Members meet regularly at local level and regionally with councillors and MPs.
Michaela, from Lowton, said: "I am really pleased to have been elected as MYP this year after being a deputy last year. I feel that the experience and confidence I gained last year will only enhance the responsibilities I take on this year."
The whole UKYP group meets every Tuesday at Ince Community Centre between 7pm and 9pm and is open to all young people.
