COUNCILLOR Boden informs us (Letters, March 24) that we are fortunate in having two MPs who miss no opportunity to keep us informed of their aims and abilities.

I cannot disagree with this and I suppose with the election imminent we can expect even more photocall opportunities in pursuit of their re-election.

However, it is not their dreams or aspirations that interest me; it is what they actually deliver to their electors.

In order to succeed in politics one has to be true only to the party line and keep one's "nose clean". Disagreeing with any aspect of Government policy would doom them to an eternity on the backbenches and make high government office impossible.

Principles to me, and many like me, are far more important than the status of the position that they hold and the backbenches are a good place to be to fight for ones constituents and for what one believes is right.

Consequently, I was delighted to hear that Mrs Yvonne Hossack, who has valiantly fought against Care Home Closures across the country and who was so successful on behalf of the people of this constituency and of the C.A.R.E. organisation and who is currently fighting on behalf of the Re:d Centre has decided to stand as prospective Independent Member of Parliament for the Bury South constituency.

Yvonne was a true battler who has really suffered this last 12 months as successive councils and parliamentarians have tried to neutralise her.

However, she has continued to fight undaunted for what she believes and has now decided to take the battle direct to the Government. And believe me, this lady, if elected, will do just that.
