THE Bury Veterans team ended their season in Division Four of the Lancashire and Cheshire Table Tennis League with a 10-0 victory over Wigan.

This gave them a 100 per cent record of played six, won six.

They have gained automatic promotion to Division Three but hope to be in even higher division next season.

They have progressed through to the semi final of the handicapped Vets Cup so victory in this might enhance their chances. Congratulations to Dave Smith, Mick Dore and Andy Kaye.

Back in the Bury League, it was cup Semi Final week and Radcliffe CC and Seedfield C, who were the only team to be involved in two semi finals, made their way to the final of the Dwyer Cup.

Despite having a two point advantage, Ramsbottom B found Radcliffe CC too strong for them, particularly Jim Chadwick who was the undefeated player on the night.

With two sets to go, Radcliffe only had a slight 4-3 lead so the match was still there for the taking by Ramsbottom but when Graham Jeffries beat Terry Taylor in the eighth set, the match was won and the final set which gave Jim his treble was immaterial to the final outcome.

Seedfield Cs confidence must have been sky high when they faced Hamer in the second of their semi finals in the week and having a nine point advantage against the Second Division team only added to that confidence.

The first two sets of the match were closely fought, both going to three games but both went to Seedfield, as did the next three to give them an unassailable 5-0 lead.

The Poytress Cup Final will be played between Shawfield B of Division Five, a team new to the league this season, and Seedfield Meths C of Division Four.

With their nine point advantage Shawfield had little trouble in beating their Third Division opponents, Claybank, 7-2.

After Claybank won the opening set of the night when Graham Daniels beat Mark Lever, Shawfield took the next three sets before Graham won his second, beating Andrew Webster 22-20 in the third game. Leading 3-2, Shawfield then took a firm hold on their place in the final by winning the remaining four sets.

Seedfield C and Holmar A have been fighting for supremacy of Division Four all season and when they met last week in what could yet prove to be the Championship decider, Holmar took the honours, but in this weeks cup match, things were different.

Holmar had the slight advantage of one point in every game and took an early 3-1 lead in the match. Seedfield came back strongly to win the next three sets before Ian McPherson won the penultimate set for Holmar to make the match score 4-4.

It was left to Alan Carse to win his third set of the night against Phil Wardle at 21-18 in the third game to take his side into their second final.

Ramsbottom A are on course to retain the MacDonald Cup, reaching the final again after beating Carlton Club B in the semi final.

Although Carlton Club had a nine point advantage over their opponents they still found the First Division Champions elect too strong for them. Perhaps the closest and decisive set of the match was the first one when Mark Ramsbottom beat John Foster at 22-20 in the third game. After that Ramsbottom always had the advantage and although Carlton won the last two sets of the evening to make the score 5-4, the match was decided before that.

In the final they will face their Clubmates from the C team who beat their Second Division opponents, Adelphi, 7-2. Adelphi had a four point start and although several of the sets went into a third deciding game, Ramsbottom C who are currently top of the Second Division were never in any real trouble.

Cup final dates are as follows: Poytress Cup - Tuesday April 12 at Radcliffe CC (Seedfield C v Shawfield B); Dwyer Cup - Wednesday April 13 at Holmar (Radcliffe CC v Seedfield C); MacDonald Cup - Thursday April 14 at St Philips (Ramsbottom A v Ramsbottom C).

All players are welcome to watch all of these finals.

Will players please note that Finals and Presentation Night will now be held on Tuesday April 26 at Ramsbottom CC.

All the seasons trophies will be presented after the finals of the individual championship matches have been completed and all are welcome.
