MORE than 100 houses are going to be bulldozed in Daneshouse, Burnley, as part of plans to revamp housing in the town.

Properties in New Hall Street, Tunstill Street, Bramble Street, Holbeck Street, Bush Street, Hilary Street, North Street and Hurtley Street are all set to go under proposals to be discussed by Burnley councillors on Tuesday.

Councillors are also expected to give the go-ahead for demolition of 22 to 38 Westmorland Street and 12 to 47 Hargher Street in south west Burnley.

They are the latest wave of improvements unveiled as part of the massive Elevate housing improvement plan.

Commenting on the Daneshouse proposals, Burnley Council's Elevate co-ordinator Michael Wellock said: "Elevate is helping the council create quality development opportunities that are attractive to the private sector.

"This latest redevelopment area will, in time, allow the private sector to begin investing and building in Daneshouse. This will benefit the whole borough. The plans for redevelopment in Daneshouse follow a similar pattern to what has happened in Burnley Wood. There, land has been assembled through clearance and is now seen as ripe for redevelopment by the public sector."

Owners of the 120 properties in Daneshouse affected will be consulted and internal property surveys will be carried out. Decision-making Executive councillors will then be asked to formally approve the clearance areas and pass compulsory purchase orders.

Once the buildings have been demolished, civic leaders hope developers will create a variety of types of houses, open space and new facilities as well as commercial buildings.
