"ALL we wanted was the win," was Sedgley Park player-coach Tim Fourie's reaction upon hearing the final whistle at Orrell last Saturday.

"It certainly can't have been an attractive game to watch, but that's what often happens in derby games and a win is a win.

"It got a bit silly and niggly at times as they tried to break us mentally and drag us down to their level.

"But we maintained our self control, because believe me, there was a lot of things going on in the rucks and mauls.

"They were falling on the wrong side every single time; the two Wilks brothers in particular had their hands all over the ball in the rucks.

"We only had one attack in the first half and scored a try from it.

"They got through once or twice in the second, but our scramble defence was up to the task and we got a vital second try.

"If I had been offered a 3-0 win before the game I would have taken it, because all we wanted was the four points which puts us on 40 and I can't see us being caught now."

The team are now making the long trip down to Exeter - they face the Chiefs at The County Ground on Saturday at 3pm.

When they visited Park Lane in November they left with a 25-39 victory and have been in title contention the whole season.

They trail current leaders and south west rivals Bristol by six points with four games left, having been beaten 68-15 last weekend by the Shoguns.

"We're in for a hard game and we will have to raise the bar another notch," said Fourie.

"But most of us watched the Bristol-Exeter game on TV and maybe now it is time for us to throw caution to the wind and play some rugby and try the 50-50 balls, if we can score two quick tries you never know what might happen.

"They might be a bit reckless and miss a few tackles because they are under pressure to win to keep pace with Bristol. But we have to remember they are a well coached team with serious ambitions.

"We shocked them a bit when we played them at our place and they will have taken note of our performances at Plymouth and Penzance, so they won't be taking us lightly.

"If we perform we have an opportunity to shock them; if we don't we could end up feeling like they did last weekend."

There are likely to be changes to both the starting line-up and the bench.

Against Orrell fullback Arno de Jager suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury that dogged him at the start of the season and is replaced by Richard Welding, who himself is still recovering from the broken jaw he picked up in the game at Penzance.

Welding's place on the bench is likely to be filled by Jim Naylor, where prop Gareth Roberts looks set to replace Dan Hall, as the young flanker is unavailable.

At half-back, Fourie may also start with Dave McCormack at scrum-half instead of Chris Wilkinson.
