BURY dentist Mark Cohen got his teeth into some serious fundraising when he took on the mantle of Grease star John Travolta.
Mark was one of a 20-strong group from the Fairfield Hospital Support Group for Children with Diabetes who helped raise £234 at a event at the Asda store in Pilsworth.
ln keeping with a store-wide Grease theme at the supermarket, Mark donned a John Travolta-style wig while collecting cash from customers. Ten adults and ten children from the support group were involved.
Eight adults and eight youngsters helped raise cash by carrying out bagpacking for shoppers and the support group was delighted with the amount of money raised. Group secretary Gillian Galloway, a community paediatric nurse who works with diabetics, was primarily involved in making all the arrangements. She was helped by Asda Pilsworth events co-ordinator Annette Jones.
Three quarters of the money raised will be used to train and support local parents of newly-diagnosed diabetic children while the remainder will be donated to Diabetes UK to aid research into new methods of treatment.
Mark said: "We would like to thank Asda and the shoppers who helped raise the money. "
