COUNCILLORS John WIlliams and Paul Browne, those great proponents and promotes of women's football (umm, since when?), must feel suitably impressed with themselves for gaining a bit of publicity at1/3 council workers' expense ("Tickets Blast For Council", LET, June 9).
How mean they are to begrudge and resent UEFAs very kind token of appreciation by issuing Ewood Park tickets to council staff in an acknowledgement of their work and support over the recent women's internationals.
Their comments are cheap political shots which will alienate so many town hall colleagues, as well as other workers in other organisations who all too often get overlooked when counting the success of those organisations. Frustrating too, I would imagine for those staff who often have to bear the brunt of public discontent as a result of decisions made in the council chamber.
How many free tickets for other events must councillors of all political persuasion receive I wonder? Maybe Councillors Browne and Williams would care to confirm that any such gifts are offered to the women's organisations which they are now suddenly the great champions of?
