A SECOND time drink-driver who was almost three times the limit kept his freedom.

Burnley magistrates heard Peter Nawab, 33, struggled to find the door handle when police stopped his car in the early hours.

The defendant, of Regent Place, Nelson, admitted driving with excess alcohol. He was given 100 hours' community punishment, banned for three years and must pay £60 costs.

The court was told Nawab's vehicle seemed to accelerate, brake sharply and cross the white lines.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit and said he had only had a couple of drinks.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Nawab, who had a previous conviction for excess alcohol, had apologised for getting into trouble again.
