A SUPER summer evening saw Radcliffe AC's Donna Allen race to a fine second place among the women in the Waugh's Well Fell Race at Turn, Edenfield.
Donna was one of four Radcliffe members who enjoyed perfect conditions on the fells above Turn in this tough four-miler.
She took second place with a time of 43 mins 27 secs. Peter McNulty (V50) recorded a creditable 38.30, Mark Cartwright 45.26 and Sheila McNulty (V50) 46.18
Mick Howard had to be content with helping out in the car park of a well-organised event, after falling in the Duddon Valley in the Lake District a couple of days before and injuring his knee.
Despite the fall Mick was placed high in the 20-miler field with a time of 4hrs 15 mins. The event took in 6,000 feet of climbing in some misty conditions that required navigational skills..
And Mick was back in action this weekend when he joined Sheila and Peter in an English championship race at Edale, Derbyshire.
More tough climbing over a five-mile course in cool and drizzly conditions saw Mick (V40) coming 120th out of 400 men in a time of 40.16. Peter (V50) recorded 45.30 and Sheila 53.33.
More than 400 men and more than 100 women took part in the race and in the over 50s category Sheila is sure of some championships points.
Mick could have also got points in his age group but they will both have to wait to see exactly how many.
