RECENTLY, I paid a visit to Radcliffe to see if I could find a few old photographs of the schools I attended in the 1930s.
This was research for a book I am writing about my family in that period and throughout the war years, but unfortunately I was unable to find anything helpful.
We were a family of 12 - six boys and six girls - who lived at James Street, where father ran a private decorating firm, C. Holland and Sons.
The family was quite well-known in the town during that period and perhaps some of the older residents would also remember the old Coliseum picture house where my younger sister,
Jean, would entertain on stage with the variety show each Tuesday night.
The schools I attended were St Johns Primary in Johnson Street, and the Radcliffe Central Senior School, as it was known then.
I have fond memories of both schools and would be grateful if anyone could supply me with a good copy of a photograph of either school (as they were then) and especially a copy of the 1936-7 school football team who won the Schools Cup that year.
If anyone can help I can be contacted on 01539 562156.
