PENDLE residents will wave goodbye to their black sacks this week as a new rubbish collection service is wheeled in.
Every house has been given a new grey wheelie bin with green ones for garden waste and boxes for recycling plastic bottles, glass, cans, paper, cardboard and textiles.
The new system of collecting recyclables one week and household waste the next will start on Monday.
And Pendle Council has come up with a few suggestions with what people can do with their old bins. They can be reused for home composting, a water butt or to restore recyclables in.
Alternatively, residents can leave them out for collection on the first day the new grey wheelie bins are emptied and the council will try to recycle them.
Pendle Council's executive member for the environment Coun John David said: "The majority of residents are now welcoming the new wheeled bin service. Of course we know that some residents will need help and if they let us know they will get it.
"Frankly it has never been easier to recycle - and by so doing, to preserve the world's resources and to reduce the need for appalling landfill sites. It will also be far better to have the grey wheeled bins which cannot break open in the streets and which can be wheeled rather than lifted like the old bags had to be.
"The council will do everything it can to make the new service a success and I am sure the vast majority of residents will enthusiastically welcome the new service
