The great British weather meant a major Cricket tournament had to be decided by a ball-off.
One quarter-final, both semi-finals and the final of the Penburn Construction sponsored one-day cricket tournament held at Towneley Park in Burnley was decided by the cricket equivalent of a penalty shoot-out after rain stopped play.
And it was hot shot Mohammed Jamil (pictured right) of Blackburn Tigers who stole the show as he smashed the stumps with all his deliveries.
Competing sides had to bowl five deliveries from five different bowlers each. With no batsman the aim is simply to hit the stumps or knock the bails off.
A total of 16 teams from all over the North West took part in the tournament on Sunday, June 12, which came to a premature but exciting finale.
Crowds lined the cricket square but few bowlers managed to hit the stumps. Those that did managed it with a full toss.
First up, the quarter-final between Tigers and Oldham's 'Big Guns' saw the Blackburn team triumph. In the all Blackburn semi-final the Tigers overcame Azad Kashmir. In the second semi-final the crowd watched as Whitefield (below right) and Boltons Kotli took it to sudden death. Eventually (and it took some time) somebody managed to hit the wickets. Home side Whitefield celebrated but their cheers were short-lived when in the final they struck out four times to hand the Tigers the winners trophy.
Earlier Blackburn Tigers had stormed through their group beating Watan, Righway Cash and Carry and Higate.
It wasnt the perfect way to end proceedings but a fitting one for a highly successful and well organised tournament.
Up to then chilly but dry weather had greeted teams from, Manchester, Bolton, Oldham, Nelson and Blackburn.
Organiser Haji Iqbal, of the Pendle District Cricket League said, "Despite the weather towards the end all the teams enjoyed a great day of cricket. I would like to thank the teams and our sponsors and all the volunteers for making this possible."
The tournament was kindly sposored by Penburn Construction, of Nelson, and Haji Amjad and Mr M Saqib from the company were on hand to present the trophies.
