A HEADTEACHER from Leigh has been named as one of the best in the North-west in a top awards ceremony.
Stan Higginson, head of Gilded Hollins Primary School, in St Helens Road, Leigh, was nominated for Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School.
Although he did not win the award, he was given a distinction, effectively second place.
And Mr Higginson said: "I dedicate this award to the hard work of the teachers, children, parents and governors at the school."
Headteachers, teachers, teaching assistants and outstanding schools from across the North-west were presented with prestigious Teaching Awards at the 2005 Regional Ceremony in Manchester Town Hall.
It was hosted by Dianne Oxberry, weathergirl on BBC North West Tonight.
