AN Accrington father-of-six has been jailed for eight months for benefit fraud.
Hyndburn magistrates heard that Mohammed Riasat, 42, claimed more than £13,700 in benefits on the basis that he had no savings.
But the court was told that at one time accounts in his and his wife's names contained over £23,000.
Riasat, 42, of Blackburn Road, pleaded guilty to six charges of making false representations to obtain benefits and was jailed for 40 days on each.
Robin Phoenix, prosecuting, said Riasat and his wife, Zarida Bi, had accounts at the Halifax Building Society, Cheshire Building Society and Yorkshire Bank.
He also owned a house in Empress Street.
He said that when interviewed Riasat refused to give his permission for investigators to approach the banks and subsequent inquiries showed that two days after the interview £12,500 was withdrawn.
