ON reading great grandad Alf Davey's memoirs, of three-and-a-half years of Japanese captivity in World War 2 (LET, June 16), I wonder how he coped, how he survived, the horror of it all.
You really have to salute this brave men and all the men and women of that generation in whatever way they served.
They indeed sacrificed a great deal on "our" behalf so that the "lights could come on again, all over the world."
Let us all share, however brief, some portion of our time in "respect" of the 60th anniversary VE VJ Commemorations in July.
