RESIDENTS have renewed calls for a 20mph speed limit to be imposed on a busy road on their estate.
It follows a Preston City Council consultation in November 2004 about making Holme Slack estate a 20mph zone with traffic calming measures such as speed humps.
Council officials excluded Holme Slack Lane from the zone over concerns that Preston Bus might have difficulty running its number 14 service on that road if there were humps.
Grandmother-of-two Mary O'Rourke, of nearby Daisy Lane, said: "Cars come down the road as if it were a race, it needs to be 20mph for the children."
In December, residents submitted a 100-plus name petition to the council calling for Holme Slack Lane to be made 20mph.
"When the estate was built in 1922 the roads were not designed for vehicles travelling at 30mph," said ward councillor Terry Cartwright.
A council spokesman said a further consultation on the lane would have to be conducted. He said: "We will consider putting these measures in place, but need to be sympathetic to the needs of Preston Bus who operate a service through the area."
Director of Preston Bus, Peter Bell, said the company were working with the council, and believed a solution could be found.
"The problem is that if you don't have the right type of speed humps the route could be dangerous for bus passengers," he added.
