A DAY centre which dishes out more than 120 meals a day to pensioners has got its hands on a £1,700 windfall.
The money for the Rainbow Centre in Morecambe comes courtesy of Gannett - the Lancaster and Morecambe Citizen's parent company.
It means the Clarence Street centre can now replace its ageing dishwasher and make life much easier for volunteers.
The charity runs a day centre for the over 55s and applied for cash from the Gannett Foundation after its old dishwasher broke down.
Workers - most of them volunteers - cook up some 30,000 a year meals at the centre and for Age Concern's Meals on Wheels.
Keeping on top of the washing-up without a dishwasher is a tall order, says manager Sue Hargreaves.
The Rainbow Centre comes under the umbrella of Age Concern but is not funded by the nationwide charity. The work of staff and volunteers is made possible only thanks to donations and fundraisers held by members.
