WITH much media attention being given to "Make Poverty History", many young people will be drawn to the demonstration in July where they will see the hypocrisy of the leaders of wealthy nations - who will be discussing the future of the poor of Africa in one of the most expensive hotels in the country.
The proof of the double standards of these leaders is that while trying to show concern, the G8 nations spend on aggressively promoting arms sales.
The British government approved the $40 million sale of a military air traffic control system to Tanzania, where half the population lack access to clean water. Despite opposition, Tony Blair insisted the deal go ahead.
At just one arms fair £107,000 of tax-payers money was spent supporting the arms industry and Britain maintains offices around the world to help sell arms to countries that can ill afford them, and who often have poor human rights records.
The UK is not alone, all the G8 countries have similar support mechanisms, so for those who cannot go to Edinburgh and want to support this movement, they can join us in Prestwich shopping area on July 2 at 11am to show their support.
