FURTHER to the letter from Cllr Barker in Citizen (June 8), the fact that problems with the paddling pool in Happy Mount Park are the responsibility of a previous cabinet is meaningless to members of the public.
We are unable to distinguish the difference - you are all the same, you are the council.
Nevertheless, I was pleased to see the paddling pool open last weekend with a dozen or so children having a good time. The only problem appeared to be some minor blistering of the painted surface.
So, what is the nature of the fault with the pool that it requires £130,000 to £200,000 to repair? Lets keep it in proportion, it is only a paddling pool with 12 inches of water. So long as the filter system works why not leave it alone?
However, if you are hell bent on replacing the pool you should consider obtaining tenders from competent pool contractors on a design and build basis, lump sum price, with an underwritten design life of say 20 years.
You should also stipulate that the work is to be carried out during the winter months. Finally, do not let the city engineers anywhere near the work.
Russell Mills, Hest Bank.
