MEMBERS of Whitefield Garrick could be on cloud nine after being nominated for a host of awards.

The theatre group has been nominated for an impressive nine awards in the Greater Manchester Drama Federation (GMDF) awards, which will be held at the Longfield Suite in Prestwich on July 2.

Out of ten categories, the Garrick has received nominations in seven, which gives them a good chance of coming home with a trophy.

The achievement is all the more exciting for the group, as this year they celebrate their 60th anniversary.

The nominations are: Best Supporting Actress - Sue Coutts as Mag Folan in The Beauty Queen of Leenane; Best Actor - Bob Howell as Lawrence Garfinkle in Other Peoples Money; Best Supporting Actor - Brian Seymour as Hravic Zyergefoovc in Body Language and Mark Bloomfield as William Coles in Other Peoples Money; Platt Shield for Best Actor (Youth) - Paul Brammer as Ray Dooley in The Beauty Queen of Leenane; John Alldridge Cup for Adventure in Theatre - Whitefield Garrick for Other Peoples Money; Design and Technical Trophy for Technical Presentation - Whitefield Garrick for Other Peoples Money; Harold Onions Trophy for Best Director - John Cunningham for The Caretaker and Alan Macpherson for Other Peoples Money.

Other local nominations include: David Lane Trophy for Front of House Organisation - PADOS; Design and Technical Trophy for Technical Presentation - PADOS for Ghost train and Whitefield AODS for Outside Edge.
