TWO Burnley FC girls are preparing themselves for life Stateside after winning soccer scholarships at American universities.

Danielle Cooper, 18, and Sam Cooke, 19, have both been selected to study in America after impressing scouts at trials in Newcastle.

Danielle has opted to go to Slippery Rock University in Pittsburgh with Sam heading for Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

And the pair can't wait to set off on their big adventure in August.

Danielle, who has a four-year scholarship, said: "It's going to be a great experience. I know it's got a good soccer academy and a friend of mine is already there and she said it's a great place to go.

"I'm absolutely over the moon to have been chosen. It's going to be a bit scary being so far away from home but it's going to be a great experience."

Sam, who has a two-year scholarship, added: "I only opted for a two-year scholarship just in case I didn't enjoy it but I'm very excited and I can't wait to go.

"It's going to be a big adventure. It's a bit scary because you can't just pop home at weekends but whatever happens it'll be something I never forget."

And the girls, both at Durham University, are looking forward to getting to work on the football field at their new schools.

Danielle said: "I just hope to do well. Not sure what to expect on the field but I just want to learn."

Sam added: "I just want to develop as a player and see what happens."
