A KIND-hearted Bury family will travel halfway across the world to help rebuild a ravaged community in Nicaragua.

Linda Adams (48) and her sons Ross (16) and Kyle (14), from Tottington, will form part of a voluntary charity group which will visit the Central American country next month.

During their three-week stay in the Bluefields region, the trio will help to build a new classroom for an existing school and construct a workshop aimed at young men in the local timber trade.

They will be accompanied on the trip by Reverend David Hall, minister for Prestwich and Heaton Park Methodist churches, and his son.

The group will be part of a relief mission organised by the Peace and Hope Trust, which has already undertaken a variety of projects from building schools, churches and clinics to running sewing programs and health initiatives in Nicaragua.

The country suffers from appalling poverty and is regularly hit by natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes.

The family is trying to raise money for supplies on the trip through fundraising events such as a Nicaraguan theme night.

Pupils at Elton High School, where Mrs Adams works offering pastoral support, are also planning a series of charity events to boost coffers.

Mrs Adams, whose sons attend Bury Church of England High School, said: "The people in Nicaragua have very little and because they are affected by natural disasters and ravaged by war, everything they do is a real hard slog.

"I've always wanted to do something like this to help less fortunate people, and when I realised my sons could come along, we were all really keen.

"It will be a huge contrast to how we live, and it will be a fantastic experience."
