AN ace Burnley biker has spoken of the agonising moment when he was run over by two motorbikes during a high-speed race.

Lee Longden says he just closed his eyes and hoped for the best when he hit the ground -- and is now grateful to be alive.

Amazingly, the 20-year-old, from Chatburn Avenue, escaped with only bruising.

He was riding at the Metabo British Supersport event at Knockhill in Fife when he raced into a tight bend.

His Honda swerved out of line and he was flung over the handlebars and on to the track.

Despite trying to roll out of the way of a pack of riders, he was run over by competitors James Storrar and Lee Dickinson.

Lee said: "I just shut my eyes and hoped for the best. It happened so quick, it was a matter of seconds.

"Looking at the pictures, it shows two bikes hitting me. I was lucky really and just walked away with slight bruising.

"I knew I had got run over as obviously you can feel it but I didn't know how many times as I just shut my eyes and whatever happens, happens.

"You can never predict what will happen. Your life is not in your hands but someone else's.

"I'm hurt but I'm lucky to come away with just bruising. Last year a Scottish rider died during the same race.

"I'm just going for a check-up at hospital later to make sure everything is OK. I've hurt my hand as well and may have broken a bone as it's still sore.

Having started at 30th place on the grid, Lee was making fast progress and was up to 16th when the accident happened.

He believes he hit a bump and feels the race should have been stopped immediately.

The death-defying experience has not put Lee off getting back on his bike and he is as keen as ever to race. He added: "I wanted to get up and carry on but they wouldn't let me."

Lee started riding when he was just four and started competing professionally in 2002.

He is an apprentice motorcycle mechanic at Rossendale Kawasaki, Crawshawbooth, and rides for Macadam Racing based in Colne.

He has won many races and trophies, including the same event last year where he crashed at the weekend.
