ACCRINGTON Stanley new boy Andy Tretton is determined to change his luck by helping the Reds achieve their league goal.
The former Hereford United captain has fallen at the final hurdle in two successive Conference play off campaigns at Edgar Street.
But Tretton, 28, aims to make it third time lucky after becoming John Coleman's first summer signing at the Interlink Express Stadium.
The Derby-born central defender, who has signed a two-year deal, roared: "I haven't come to Accrington to stand still.
"At Hereford we were knocked out in the play-offs in the last couple of seasons, so I am definitely looking for a bit of success in my career and that means helping Stanley back into the Football League."
Tretton, who enjoyed five seasons with Shrewsbury in League Two before joining Hereford in 2002, is reunited with former Town team mate Steve Jagielka and ex-Bulls striker David Brown at Stanley.
And he needed little persuading to link up with the Reds once manager John Coleman made him a top summer target.
"John made me feel wanted and he was very enthusiastic about the plans he has for the club," added Tretton.
"At Hereford we always seemed to have good battles against Accrington and I was impressed by the way they played.
"It just felt right and I am looking forward to the new challenge. This will be my fourth season in the Conference and the quality is getting better year on year.
"League clubs are looking to trim their squads and they are filtering down to raise the standard all the time.
"I don't think there is anything now between the Conference and League Two and we aim to prove that.
"I was surprised Stanley didn't make the play-offs last season, but with a few additions to what is already a quality squad I genuinely think we can do much better.
"In a way, last season should still be viewed as a success because often it can be harder in the second season since you are no longer a surprise package.
"But the players here will be better for the experience and hopefully people like myself can come in and help to bring about success."
l STANLEY have again been invited to compete in next season's LDV Trophy competition, along with 11 other Conference clubs.
Stanley had good exposure in the competition last year after beating Bradford City in the first round and enjoying a close game with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park in the following round.
