ADRIAN Smith posted a personal best ride of 24mins 11secs in last Tuesday's Kent Valley ten miles time trial.
Phil Collins, John Yates and Bob Duckworth also rode this event posting 26.28, 26.58 and 27.51 respectively.
In Thursday's Southport CC 10, marshalling was not up to the usual standard which resulted in Adrian Smith slipping back to a 25.49, and Steve Hepworth getting completely lost.
He chased down the rider ahead only to find, when he finally caught him, that he had been led off course by someone who was not a minute man.
On finally finding the finish, Steve's computer revealed that he had ridden 25 miles in 1hr 10mins, which is impressive for a first attempt at time trialling.
Also riding this event was Vince Eastwood and Bob Duckworth who posted 24.27 and 27.41 respectively.
Vince and Adrian rounded a busy week off on Saturday, when they competed in the Liverpool Century 10', posting 24.38 and 24.39 respectively.
On last Sunday's ride the headwind added considerably to the pleasure of the club run, moderating the heat of the day.
A morning break was taken at Higher Walton then north of Preston, traffic free lanes were enjoyed before a late lunch at Chipping.
TANDEM RIDING CLUB
FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
HELEN Browne is both blind anddeaf. Even so, she has until recently been able to travel from Stretford to Bury for Sunday rides.
But a timetable change led to confusion for her when making the connection to Bury.
To the credit of MetroLink, they have given her a budget allowance which she can use for taxis so that she is able to join us for some of the Sunday rides she enjoys so much.
Helen, then, was able to be out last Sunday, steered by Matthew Holt, for the ride which is noted as uphill to Uppermill, and then uphill to get out of Uppermill.
It is not only Helen who faces difficulties in getting to Tottington for the clubrun, but other blind members as well.
This meant that club stalwart David Harrison rode with sighted Mark Johnson, a work colleague he recently recruited as a steerer.
David had been serving the club the previous day in his capacity as trainer of new recruits.
These were 19-year-old Lauren Wigglesworth from Urmston, who is totally blind and local experienced sighted cyclist Rhiannan Allport.
This Sunday's ride is to Walton le Dale.
Meet Tottington HQ at 9.15am.
LANCASHIRE ROAD CLUB
BURY members of the club are enjoying their summer racing.
From the days of his youth, Peter Graham has excelled at ten miles time trials, and as a long standing veteran continues to be amongst the prizewinners, or to be close to the honours.
In last Saturday's Liverpool Century event, his 25min 43 secs ride was good enough for the third place veteran prize. Other recent postings at ten miles were a 24.37 and a 25.11 in the Preston CC and Kent Valley CC events respectively.
In these recent events, he has been pleased to find that he has been matching the performance of the top riders of yesteryear, Brian Haskell and Tommy Oldfield.
Blind member Derek Pritchard, has raced regularly this year. Partnered on his tandem with Mike Bigmore, he had the pleasure of returning a personal best time of 1hr 12mins 18secs in Cheshire RC 30 miles time trial.
He also rode with Mike in the annual Spalding time trial for visually impaired tandem riders.
Their time for this marathon distance event was 1hr 6mins 16secs which earned them the second place award.
Derek has also ridden four recent 25's with Phil Rowsey posting 59.17, 1.1.30, 1.2 58 and 1.3.38.
Phil prefers tandem racing so he has also paired with John Bunting (West Pennine), beating the 24mph standard with a 22.25 at ten miles and 59.45 at 25 miles.
