BURY Croquet Club's advanced team had a home match at Heaton Park against a strong Southport trio in an all-play-all singles format.
The Bury three were David Barrett, Paul Rigge and Ken Anderton.
All three defeated the weakest of the Southport team.
Against the A-class pair, David had the win he should against the scratch player.
Paul had the clinching game against a minus handicap man who made the slight error of taking a ball to peg.
Paul promptly did an all-round break and pegged the enemy ball out, and with two balls against one had a big tactical advantage and eventually won to create the match win by five games to four.
