WALMER Mens 'A' team continue to find life hard in
Division One of the Bolton Tennis League.
Their latest match was at home to Tyldesley 'A' ,
mid-table team having one outstanding pair.
Dave Gerrard and Mark Booth tasted success, winning 7-5, 6-4, before having a 2-6 service, and Rick Marley and Steve Routledge won one set with 0-6, 2-6, 6-4 results.
Despite going close, Mike Davies and Paul Biggins were unable to add to Walmer's total with 2-6, 4-6, 4-6 sets, and Walmer 'A' lost the match 3-6.
Walmer Men's 'B' travelled to Bolton CC and were involved in a match where the result was always difficult to predict.
Phil Denney and Jay hardy led the way when winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 and Julian Nuttall and Adam Goody scoring 6-2, 6-6 went very close at 5-7.
Stu Hardy and James Edge lost 2-6, 3-6 and were unable to get the half point that turned out to be crucial when they lost 5-7.
The overall 4.5-4.5 tie was, however, a fair result between evenly matched sides.
Walmer 'C' continue to dominate Division 8 and
strengthened their lead at the top with a 9-0 result.
The experienced squad were far too good for Holcombe Brook 'D' as Brian Richards and Stu Donaldson won 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
John Biggins and Chris Vipond won 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and Dave Worsley and Andy Parton were victors 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.
It seems only Chorley 'B' will be a threat to Walmer 'C' in the divisions this season.
Walmer Mens 'D' played away at Hawkshaw 'D' and each couple had some success, the final result did not reflect how close the match was.
Keith Fairhurst and promising junior Adam Heath could well have done better than their 2-6, 7-5, 4-6 scores showed.
Mike Booth and Alan Coveney scored 0-6, 2-6, 6-6, and Paul Tait and Dave Whittall also got a half with 3-6, 1-6, 6-6 sets, but the home team came out on top by 7-2.
