I WAS pleased to read of a new 'Vision to transform the river' (Citizen, June 16).
However I was a little confused as Preston City Council (PCC) and its councillors seem to make the rules up as they go along. At least the way they choose to implement the rules appears to change to suit their purpose.
It was not that long ago that a planning application including housing was approved for the "bullnose" down by the river, even though there was a moratorium on housing in Preston and the PCC planning officers had recommended its refusal.
The planning committee approved the application, and I remember it well as it was considered and described as a "landmark gateway building" for Preston.
I had always been confused as how anyone could consider the Bullnose a gateway to the city, unless arriving by river. Who arrives by river? Ask the people of Preston and I bet 90 per cent won't have a clue where the Bullnose is!
Now I see in the Riverworks scheme, we are to get another "landmark building down by the river". Just how many "landmark" buildings are we going to have?
I note that "the Riverworks is intended to complement the Tithebarn scheme", they are miles apart, just how are they going to complement each other?
Or are we going to get a tram network/free buses linking the two?
Despite my cynicism I think it is a great idea and should have been instigated from the outset years ago.
